I totally agree. This got blown way out proportion by the Palin camp, of course. The only way to quiet the noise was for Dave to apologize, or it would've really gotten out of hand. BTW the Peggy/Palin resemblance is uncanny!

FYI, Janet thinks this is a fire started and accelerated by Palin. She is a Rep, but doesn't blindly follow. Sometimes :)

not sure what Palin's motivation was.. continued exposure in the media? she fueled a fire that Letterman wisely put out the minute it was assumed he was talking about the younger daughter.. I never saw the initial joke as directed at her.. but then again.. my humor is a bit askew anyway.. her continued attacks and calls for CBS to fire him make Letterman look like a saint at this point..

The bigger question is, will Letterman apologize to A-rod and all the other multi-millionaire athletes who he also mistreated?

Simple Point...Dave shouldn't have said it and was wrong....you can talk & joke about the mother all you like as she's a public figure and that goes with the territory, but don't bring her or any public official children to the joke or conversation as this is what will happen. I'm not going to go and say Dave should be fired, but he should cut a check to a woman's/young teens charity to end the entire deal. I didn't hear too many jokes happening when Biden's daughter ran into a little drug trouble couple months ago....

Yes Dave told the joke, the 18 year old was NOT in Yankee Stadium, the younger child was there so therefore it was Dave's fault for telling a bad joke without saying the name of who he was talking about!!! This was another instance of her exploiting her kids for political gain. She knew which kid he meant. It kept her in the news thus fueling her run in 2012. Sadly it was necessary for Dave to apologize. She won the battle but hopefully not the war.

Dave's first apology didn't seem sincere, he played it for laughs. This is the apology he should have done and things would have died down.

The fact that Palin or anybody else think Letterman's bad joke = perversion or is actually important in some way simply proves that the world is increasingly run by idiots.

BendCanada, I guess it’s because I live close to north Idaho & the simpletons are everywhere & it’s getting old. It was a joke, & the fact that the G.I.L.F’y Gov. has gotten this much play on it is amazing. It was in poor taste…hence FUNNY. Not that funny, but funny.
